Your Story Series: Leah
Could you please share your experiences around being diagnosed with melanoma?
I was diagnosed with Stage III Melanoma at the age of 25, shortly after my son's first birthday. May of 2026 will be my 8 year mark.
How has your relationship with the sun changed following your diagnosis?
I definitely struggled, after my diagnosis, my relationship with the sun had to change. Especially with having a young son who loves to be adventurous and exploring the outdoors.
What does living a sun-safe life mean to you, and how has sun protection impacted your confidence or comfort when spending time outdoors?
For me, knowledge is power and understanding the UV index, sunscreen, UPF clothing, etc. has been a huge comfort for me. It's not about avoiding the sun or being afraid of it, but knowing that just because the sun has power, you have power too in how you handle it. It's hard to feel like you are in control, but there's definitely areas where you can arm yourself with tools to not stop your exploring and adventurous spirit.
What is your favourite Solbari product and why?
I love the long sleeve quarter zips as they can be worn with something super casual like leggings, but can also be dressed up if you want a more preppy look!
What advice would you give to someone who hasn’t yet embraced sun protection in their routine?
UPF protection used to be designed for "old ladies". Solbari specifically has so many stylish options out there. You don't have to sacrifice style for protection.
